Fruits

SWEET GEORGIA PEACHES

Run-Down-Your-Arm-Juicy is the only way we can describe our Sweet Georgia Peaches.  We’ve been purchasing them from the same grower for over 50 years because when you find something this good, you stick with it.  They are tree-ripened, hand-picked and shipped directly to our farm. Early Cling varieties are available beginning in mid-May. Freestone varieties are available from mid-June through early September.  You can purchase these Sweet Georgia Peaches by the pound, basket or half bushel, just make sure you have a napkin handy.

Cantaloupe

Sweet and refreshing, our cantaloupes are the perfect summer snack. They’re low in calories and help keep you hydrated on hot summer days. Beginning in mid-May, we have Sweet Georgia Cantaloupe until our homegrown ones are ripe and ready to harvest in early July. To pick out the perfect cantaloupe, look for a nice yellow color on the rind and smell the stem: if there is a sweet fragrance, it’s ripe and ready to eat. If you’re not confident in your cantaloupe picking skills, ask one of our Melon Specialists for help. They’ll be happy to assist.

Watermelon

When we think summer, we think watermelons. They are so sweet and juicy they could be considered a dessert. Our homegrown watermelon season is mid-July to mid-August, but we have sweet southern watermelon available the remainder of the season. We have seedless varieties all season long and seeded varieties available in July. To pick a watermelon that’s ripe and ready to eat, thump it and listen for a hollow sound. Also, look for one that’s heavy for its size with a yellow spot on the bottom. Follow these tips and you’re sure to find a sweet melon!

Strawberries

Nothing is more exciting than that first glimmer of bright red peeking through the fields in early Spring. After a long, cold winter, our homegrown strawberries are always a welcome arrival. We currently grow five acres of these delicious berries that are perfect for pies, jams and just plain eating. We begin harvesting our homegrown strawberries in mid-May and they are available for purchase at our farm markets. We no longer offer pick-your-own strawberries at the main farm.

Raspberries

There are a few new berries growing on the farm and they are definitely making an impression. We are now growing red and black raspberries. These raspberries are the perfect combination of sweet and tart. Mark your calendars, we begin picking these delicious berries in mid-June. We have a second crop available in mid-July. There are so many ways to enjoy them: you can eat them fresh, put them in a smoothie, or add them to your favorite muffin mix. We prefer to use them to make one of our Grandma Sally’s famous raspberry pies.

Blackberries

Blackberries are another new addition to our fields here at the farm. They have numerous health benefits and make a flavorful, convenient snack. Blackberries have a reputation of being rather tart, but our homegrown blackberries are a different story; they are allowed to ripen fully on the vine, increasing their sugar content and giving them a burst of flavor like no other. So sweet, you’ll think you are eating candy. Blackberry season begins in late June and ends in early August.

Blueberries

When it comes to health foods, blueberries are definitely at the top of the list. These tiny berries are filled with antioxidants and have a sweet flavor that will keep you coming back for more. We have planted our own patch of blueberries, but they will not be ready to harvest for several more years. Until then, we will be purchasing them from another trusted grower. We will will have a steady supply of blueberries available at our farm markets from late June through mid-August.

PLUMS & NECTARINES

If you love fresh summer fruits, try our plums and nectarines. Their sweet yet tart tastes are sure to satisfy your sugar cravings. They are sourced from California and available at our farm markets from June through September. At different times throughout the season, we will have red or black plums. Their unique flavor make them perfect for eating fresh, jams or desserts. If you love the taste of peaches, but hate the peach fuzz, nectarines are the perfect fruit for you. They taste similar to a peach but have a smooth skin. You are sure to enjoy these sweet summer treats!

apples

Apples are the star fruit of our fall season. Beginning in early September, we have about ten different varieties available including Honeycrisp, Gala, Golden Delicious, McIntosh and Granny Smith to name a few. We sell our apples by the pound and by the bushel. Crisp, sweet and juicy, they make the perfect snack on a cold fall day.

Tomatoes

Our tomatoes are grown in the sandy soils of the Muskingum River Banks, giving them a slightly higher acid content and a flavor that packs a punch.  Juicy and red right down to the center, they’re the perfect addition to your summer sandwich.  We begin harvesting our homegrown tomatoes around July 1st. Until then, we offer Tasty Tennessee Tomatoes.
Looking for low-acid options? We also grow yellow tomatoes that are a tad sweeter than our red ones.  And don’t forget the green tomatoes! No summer is complete without a fried green tomato.
