Do you have Wave petunias?

We do!  We carry 3-4 varieties of Wave petunias.  However, when it comes to trailing petunias, we mainly use and recommend the Supertunia series.  We feel that supertunias are more vigorous growers and work better in hanging baskets and containers.  But we know variety is the spice of life, so we carry numerous choices for trailing petunias including wave, supertunia and surfinia varieties.  We try to offer the options with the best growth habits that will lead to a successful growing season.

Can I plant these sun plants in the shade?

We don’t recommend it.  If sun plants don’t get enough sun, they will stop blooming. We suggest you follow the light requirements on the tag due to the chance the plant may die and your investment will be wasted.

If I don’t want impatiens, what are some other shade plant options?

There are various types of begonias like tuberous or rex, some bright colored coleus, torenia, oxalis and you can’t go wrong with a Dragon Wing Begonia.

How often should I water?

This depends on the size of your plants and the weather. As a general rule, the hotter the temperature gets, or more foliage the plant has, the more it will drink. In summer, you will probably need to water sun plants every day. If you have a succulent or a plant with rubbery leaves, it will drink less and prefers it a little dry.

How often should I fertilize?

It’s a good rule of thumb to fertilize once a week. Miracle Grow does a great job.

Can I reuse last year’s soil or container liner?

You can definitely reuse liners if they are still in good shape, but we recommend using fresh soil with replenished nutrients.

What is the best soil to use for my container?

Any brand of potting soil is fine. As long as it’s nice and airy and allows for good drainage. If you have trouble remembering to fertilize, you could purchase one with slow-release fertilizer.

Does this plant come back every year?

That depends if the plant is an annual or perennial. Annuals bloom all summer for one season only.  Perennials have a shorter bloom time, but come back year after year. Our knowledgeable staff can help you determine between the two.

Can the plants in hanging baskets be divided?

We don’t recommend separating the plants in the hanging baskets or containers. Not that it can’t be done, but the plants in our hanging baskets and containers have been growing together for a substantial amount of time.  The roots have intertwined and grown around each other, and trying to tear them apart could cause damage to the root systems.

Do you have any ground covers?

We carry a few different perennial ground covers including creeping phlox, stonecrop, wooly thyme, pink chintz thyme and english thyme.

Why are your prices higher than big box garden centers?

We are family owned and operated, and pride ourselves on growing a high quality, local product, while at the same time creating jobs for our communities.  A small operation like ours, does not have the ability to compete with the prices of a big, nationwide box store. But we work hard to provide our customers with an excellent shopping experience and top notch customer service.  And in terms of quality and design, we think that we blow them out of the water, so to us, the extra cost is worth it.
