IT’S CRUNCH TIME!!! Only 23 days till our first market opens and we still have lots to do. Everyone’s adrenaline is rushing, which is ok with me…I’m kind of an adrenaline junkie anyway. But these next few weeks, we will be slowing down a bit because we have some important decisions to make. We will be selecting the best people to represent my family and most important, take care of our customers this season. We will be interviewing and hiring for our 2018 MARKET TEAMS.
Our market teams are the heart and soul of our business. They are the ones that care for our customers and keep our markets in tip-top shape, all the while carrying bags of corn and packing peaches. That’s no easy task. It takes a kind, hardworking and determined person to fulfill that job description. Most of our market teams are high school and college students. I love working with this millennial generation. They have such spirit and zest for life. They are at the stage in life when they are ready to take on the world. Working with them makes me feel like I’m in my twenties again-I’m not sure why people laugh when I say that (HAHA).
For many of our team members, working at one of our farm markets is their first job. This is both an honor and responsibility that we do not take lightly. As their first employer, we want to help them learn the work ethic, leadership and problem-solving skills that will help them succeed in the future. We don’t just grow vegetables…WE GROW PEOPLE TOO! This is the part of my job where I get to put my education background to good use (Yay!)
However, I don’t want you to think that they are the only ones learning something. We have had so many smart and talented employees pass through our farm markets over the years and we are learning from them too. We always encourage our staff to give feedback and share their ideas for improvement-and they do! Some of the ideas we have gained from our interns and employees have completely changed the way our business is run. It is always exciting to think that our employees care so much about their job they want to help us improve our business. Makes me proud of our future leaders.
As I look forward to this season, I can’t help but get excited about the new teams we will be building. If you know anyone that is looking for a great job opportunity this summer-send them our way! We would love to meet them!
